Secretary of State Rex Tillerson testified at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on his department’s fiscal year 2018 budget request. He addressed members' concern over cuts in the proposed budget. Mr. Tillerson was asked why he felt the U.S. should have stayed in the Paris climate agreement. He told members as a diplomat, he felt having a “seat at the table” is important and would allow more opportunity for engagement with many allies. Despite the president’s decision to withdraw from the agreement, Mr. Tillerson assured members that the U.S. would not walk away from their commitments on the issue. close
