Federal intelligence and cybersecurity officials as well as state government and election board leaders testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee about Russian hacking and U.S. elections. Jeanette Manfra told committee members 21 states were targeted by Russian hacking attempts during the 2016 election cycle but that no vote tallies were altered. Ms. Manfra and the other witnesses discussed the methods employed in those attempts to discover vulnerabilities in U.S. election infrastructure, lessons learned for future elections, and recommendations for how federal and state officials can better communicate about potential breaches and ensuring voting systems security. close
