Old Manse and Ralph Waldo Emerson Old Manse Senior Curator Christie Jackson talked about Ralph Waldo Emerson’s time in the home as well as other writers, such as Henry David Thoreau, Nathanial Hawthorne, and Margaret Fuller, who spent time there. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote most of his works while living in Concord, Massachusetts. He wrote Nature, which set the foundation for transcendentalism while living at the Old Manse.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in Concord, Massachusetts, from June 17-22 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
