Concord Museum curator David Wood visited Walden Pond to recount Henry David Thoreau’s time there and the lasting impact of his book. For two years, beginning in 1845, writer and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau lived on the shores of Walden Pond. The purpose was to acquire a better appreciation of nature and find an escape from the surrounding world. He chronicled his experience in the book Walden; Or, Life in the Woods.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in Concord, Massachusetts, from June 17-22 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
