The Minutemen and Their World
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in Concord, Massachusetts, from June 17-22 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

Robert Gross talked about his book The Minutemen and Their World, in which he describes the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and the role that Concord, Massachusetts, played in it. On April 19, 1775, some of the first shots of the American Revolution were fired at the Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. In 1837, writer Ralph Waldo Emerson commemorated this event with his poem describing “the shot heard round the world.”
