Cate Lineberry talked about her book Be Free or Die: The Amazing Story of Robert Smalls' Escape from Slavery to Union Hero, in which she recalls the life of Robert Smalls, a former slave who became the first African American captain of an Army ship. Michael Boulware Moore, great-, great-grandson of Mr. Smalls and the president and CEO of the International African American Museum, also took part in the event, and he and Ms. Lineberry asked each other questions about the book. close
