Before the closing plenary session of the 2017 National Governors Association annual summer meeting, Keith Gardner, chief of staff to Governor Susana Martinez (R-NM), introduced a video on his state and its capital, Santa Fe, where the 2018 annual meeting was to be held. Then, Governor Terry McAuliffe, the outgoing NGA chair, made remarks and introduced the incoming chair, Governor Brian Sandoval (R-NV). Rather than Governor McAuliffe passing the gavel to Governor Sandoval, by hand, the gavel was delivered to the new chair by drone. close
