Elon Musk was the closing speaker at the 2017 annual National Governors Association summer meeting. He talked about the impact of emerging technologies on energy and transportation sectors. In his comments he predicted that in the upcoming 10 years, all new cars in the U.S. would be electric vehicles. He also warned that artificial intelligence poses a “fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization” and argued that government should be proactive rather than reactive in artificial intelligence regulation. close
