Commerce Committee Ranking Member Bill Nelson (D-FL), criticized the Senate Republican Affordable Care Act replacement plan for dropping pre-existing condition allowances. He reviewed the problems and challenges faced by several Florida constituents, one with breast cancer and another without arm and knee replacements. He also said the Senate should not waste anymore time on the Republican plan. Minority Leader Schumer (D-NY) followed Senator Nelson, saying he met with constituents in all parts of New York who asked him not to get rid of health care, including Medicaid. He called on senators to work to improve the existing law. Senator Murray (D-WA) talked about Republican plans to cut Medicaid, saying their plan would hurt Opioid addiction programs and Planned Parenthood. Other speakers were Senators Ron Wyden (OR), Bennet (CO), Merkley and Kaine (VA). close
