The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing for the nomination of four candidates for State Department positions. The nominees were Callista Gingrich to be U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, Nathan Sales as the State Department’s counterterrorism coordinator, George Glass to be the ambassador to Portugal, and Carl Risch to be assistant secretary of state for consular affairs. Committee members questioned the nominees on a range of issues including climate change, travel visas, budget cuts to the State Department, and countering violent extremism. close
