President Trump awarded medals of valor to five police officers who responded to the June 14, 2017, shooting that left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and three others wounded. Among the wounded was U.S. Capitol Police Special Agent Crystal Griner. She, another colleague, and three Alexandria City police officers were honored at the White House. President Trump also acknowledged other first responders and the medical teams that cared for the victims. The shooting happened as lawmakers were practicing for the annual charity baseball game. close
