Conservative Urban Development Policy The American Conservative and R Street Institute, a conservative-leaning think tank, co-hosted two panel discussions on conservative urban development policy. Panelists in the first talked about the evolution of American cities and made the case that conservative policy-makers should turn their attention toward not only major U.S. cities but also suburban areas and small cities trying to remake themselves into denser, more urban environments. The second panel, which included New York Times opinion columnist Ross Douthat, focused on some of the zoning, land-use, and other regulatory structures that conservative policy-makers and politicians could focus on changing to support growth of American cities. close
