New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D), the president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, spoke about the organization’s agenda. Joining him for the conversation with reporters at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast series included the mayors of Columbia, South Carolina, and Mesa, Arizona. All three spoke on a wide range of issues facing their cities including immigration, trade, tax reform, community development block grants and public safety. They also agreed that the political rhetoric and tone in Washington, D.C., needs to be toned down because of the negative impact on the policy making process. close
