Briefing on the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Brett McGurk, the special presidential envoy for the global coalition to counter ISIS, spoke to the press following meetings in Jordan. Sec. Mattis is heading to Iraq to meet with Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and as well as with the President of the Kurdistan Region. Sec. Mattis discussed he recent trip to Jordan as well as diplomatic efforts to combat ISIS. He and Mr. McGurk also answered questions from members of the press on a variety of subjects including U.S. strategy in the Euphrates River Valley and the status of a referendum on Iraqi-Kurdish independence that is scheduled to be held next month. close
