Defense Secretary James Mattis held a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kiev. The two leaders discussed the question of the U.S. supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine, but no definitive decision was made and the request is currently under review. Secretary Mattis reiterated that the U.S. would continue to put pressure on Russia in living up to its committment to withdraw their troops from Ukrainian territory. He added that the U.S. does not accept Russia’s seizure of Crimea, and sanctions would stay in place until Russia reversed their actions. Ukrainian President Poroshenko announced a new ceasefire agreement and urged Russia to immiediately withdraw its troops from the Donbas region. close
