The Social Security Administration’s acting chief of staff as well as several career disability claims professionals testified at a hearing on issues of Social Security disability benefits eligibility and claims processing. The witnesses offered their observations on the claims process and made recommendations for improving the process and reducing the backlog for claimants applying for benefits. Subcommittee Chair Sam Johnson (R-TX) cited an average wait time of 600 days for people to be granted hearings for their disability claims. close
