Witnesses testified at a hearing on sanctions and other diplomatic efforts aimed at pressuring North Korea to end its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile development programs. The hearing came the day after the United Nations Security Council unanimously voted to introduce new sanctions on North Korea, specifically targeting its natural gas and oil imports and its textile exports. Two officials from the State and Treasury departments testified on the potential efficacy of the sanctions and outlined the challenges the U.S. and its allies face in enforcing them. close
