In the meeting Secretary Mnuchin urged Republican lawmakers to vote on a bill linking Hurricane Harvey aid to the debt ceiling increase. The bill was a part of a deal struck earlier in the week between the president and democrats. Representative Brat, referring to the tone of the meeting, said some people felt like they were being “intellectually assaulted.” The meeting happened before lawmakers voted to approve the deal.
