Little Rock, Arkansas, Before 1957 Little Rock, Arkansas, residents talked about the city and race relations in the years leading up to the 1957 integration of Little Rock Central High School. On September 25, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock to escort nine African American students to the all-white school, enforcing the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision that state laws establishing separate schools for black and white students were unconstitutional. close
