In his first address to the United Nations General Assembly, President Trump focused much of his speech on the leaders of North Korea and Iran, both of which he referred to as rogue states that imperiled international peace and security. Among his remarks he threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea if it threatened the U.S. or its allies and calling its leader, Kim Jong-un, “Rocket Man.” He also said the Obama administration’s nuclear agreement with Iran was "an embarrassment. He urged the U.N. Security Council to maintain its unity in pressuring North Korea to end its nuclear program, and Iran to halt its support for terror groups in the Middle East. He concluded by denouncing socialist governments such as Venezuela, calling them harmful to the people they govern. close
