The Center for American Progress co-hosted a discussion with Welcoming America to explore ways state and community leaders are working to engage with immigrant and refugee communities. California State Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon (D) delivered remarks about ways his state is proceeding on immigration issues irrespective of federal immigration policies and rhetoric. Other local leaders, including Storm Lake, Iowa Police Chief Mark Prosser, talked about their communities' efforts and the lessons they learned in trying to make their communities more inclusive for immigrants and refugees. close
