Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Joseph Dunford appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee to discuss the president’s strategy in Afghanistan. Committee Chair John McCain (R-AZ) called it totally unacceptable “that more details of the plan are not being provided to Congress.” The two Pentagon leaders also commented on the role of other regional countries in the conflict. They were also asked about other issues including North Korea, the Iran nuclear agreement, and the Defense Department’s role in relief efforts for Puerto Rico. close
