At a press conference at the U.S. Capitol, former Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and her husband Mark Kelly spoke to reporters about the mass shooting in Las Vegas. They called on Congress to take action via legislation to address gun violence. Ms. Giffords, herself a victim of a January 2011 shooting 1 in Tucson, Arizona, briefly made a direct appeal to members of Congress and said, “The nation’s counting on you.” Mr. Kelly said that he and Ms. Giffords were heartbroken but rejected the idea that shootings such as the one in Las Vegas were inevitable. He called on Congress to take action via legislation to address gun violence. close
