The House Homeland Security Committee held a hearing to consider border security legislation introduced by Committee Chair Michael McCaul (R-TX). The committee approved the proposal by an 18-12 vote, sending it to the House floor for consideration. The bill authorizes $10 billion for the deployment and construction of a U.S. southern border wall. In addition, it authorizes $5 billion for ports of entry security, adds 5,000 border patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection officers, and aims to identify visa overstays. close
