Days before President Trump was expected to announce his decision on whether to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing on Iranian threats. Witnesses included a former military commander, a U.S. ambassador to Iraq, and a former Obama administration adviser who was part of the negotiating process. Most committee members expressed deep concern over the current deal, but several cautioned that walking away from it would cause division and insecurity about U.S. leadership in the world. Other questions focused on Iran’s compliance with the agreement, the role of Europe and the Gulf nations, and how pulling out of the Iran deal would affect efforts in North Korea. close
