Three State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development officials testified at a hearing on U.S.-Myanmar relations, with a focus on the genocide of Rohingya Muslims in that nation’s Rakhine state. The witnesses talked about steps the U.S. and its allies had already taken to try and encourage Burmese civilian government officials to take a stronger approach with the nation’s military, which has been accused of slaughtering tens of thousands of Rohingya and driving more than 600,000 more across the western border into Bangladesh. close
