The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations convened a hearing on the federal government’s public health preparedness for hurricane season. This hearing came after Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria devastated parts of Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb testified that he had serious concerns about Puerto Rico as it is a major hub for drug manufacturers, whose facilities were severely damaged. Other federal health officials also appeared before the subcommittee. close
