House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) announced that his committee, along with the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, would be launching a joint investigation into the 2010 approval of the sale of a Canadian uranium mining company, Uranium One, to a Russian state-owned enterprise. Recent news reports show the FBI had been gathering evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, extortion, and money laundering, among other possible crimes, in the U.S. prior to the deal’s approval. The joint investigation would probe the approval process, whether or not the FBI had been investigating the deal, and, if so, why Congress was not informed of its investigation. close
