Billionaire businessman and 1992 presidential candidate H. Ross Perot and several members of Congress spoke at a news conference to announce the presentation of thousands of petitions prepared by Mr. Perot’s political organization United We Stand, America urging Congress to cut spending prior to raising taxes. The speakers criticized the economic plan currently under consideration by the U.S. Senate as containing insufficient spending cuts with its tax increases, and several Republican members of Congress announced their allegiance to the goals and principles of Mr. Perot’s organization. close
