President Trump spoke to reporters before boarding Marine One en route to Dallas, Texas, for an update on Hurricane Harvey and to attend two fundraising events. The president downplayed division in the Republican Party saying that his meeting with Senate Republicans the previous day on Capitol Hill was a “love fest.” He said that recent comments by Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) criticizing him were being overhyped by the media and that they were only making those comments because they could not win re-election in 2018. The president said tax reform efforts were progressing and that he expected bipartisan support for the plan. Additionally, the president said the 2010 approval of the sale of a Canadian uranium mining company to a Russian state-owned enterprise was something that needed to be looked into, calling it “Watergate, modern age.” close
