The Senate Intelligence Committee held a hearing on Russia and social media influence in the 2016 election. Officials from Facebook, Twitter and Google testified about what their companies were doing to protect users after the 2016 election from misleading and malicious content. They shared what they have learned about the number of Russian-based fake accounts and the impact and reach of posts from those accounts on other users. Senators admonished the witnesses and their companies for not doing enough to understand the scope of the problem and said they needed to do more to prevent the dissemination of malicious content on their platforms. close
