The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) held a panel discussion on efforts to combat global extremist groups' use of social media platforms to recruit and radicalize individuals. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chair Ron Johnson (R-WI) delivered the keynote remarks on legislative efforts to combat the groups. Panelists included New America Vice President Peter Bergen, Dartmouth University’s Hany Farid, and former White House Homeland Security Adviser and CEP President Frances Townsend. The panelists discussed new technologies that could help social media companies identify and remove extremist content and advocated for the adoption of clearer terms of service and transparency in their content removal processes. close
