Utility officials from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands testified before the Senate Energy Committee on their role in Hurricanes Irma and Maria recovery efforts on the island territories. Among them was the executive director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) who defended his decision to grant a $300 million repair contract to the small Montana energy firm, Whitefish Energy. The company was under investigation by the FBI for allegedly over charging Puerto Rico’s power authority.

This was the second panel of this hearing. The first panel comprised the governors of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and officials from the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Puerto Rico Energy Commission. close
