Panelists talked about the state of U.S. relations with Turkey with a focus on the trial of Turkish-Iranian gold merchant Reza Zarrab, who had been accused of violating U.S. economic sanctions against Iran. They spoke about how the Zarrab case has deepened the rift between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Muhammed Fethullah Gülen Hocaefendi, a Turkish dissident and cleric who was in exile in Pennsylvania. They also talked more generally about the relationship between President Erdoğan’s government and the U.S. under the Trump administration. close
