The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee held a hearing on ways to simplify the application for federal student aid for undergraduate and graduate students. Among the witnesses were higher education administrators who talked about the barriers the application’s dozens of questions present to students, particularly those from non-traditional families, as well as a formerly homeless college graduate who discussed her struggles to file financial aid applications without a stable address. Lawmakers intended to include language simplifying the application as part of a measure reauthorizing provisions of the 1965 Higher Education Act. close
