Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The summit brought together leaders from the 57-member states and was in direct response to President Trump’s recent announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel. The Turkish president, along with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the OIC secretary general, delivered strong statements opposing the decision. Mr. Abbas said the U.S. was no longer an “honest broker of peace” because of this action.
