Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) opened the second session of the 115th Congress by welcoming the newest Senate members, Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) and SenatorTina Smith (D-MN). He then discussed agenda items for the new session, and commented on Iran’s latest developments and Senator Orrin Hatch’s (R-UT) decision to retire at the end of his term. Afterward, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) welcomed the newest senators, described what he hopes to see in the upcoming year, and discussed President Trump’s tweets and foreign policy. close
