Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) talked about undocumented migrants who arrived in the U.S. as children, also known as “DREAMers,” and the Trump administration’s March 5, 2018, deadline for ending former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. DACA allowed some individuals who entered the country as minors illegally, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit.
Senator Kaine said he had spent a lot of time talking to young people threatened with deportation and that he was heartened when President Trump said that DACA should be fixed. Senator Klobuchar said the easiest way to fix DACA is to pass the DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act. close
