State Department Daily Briefing State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert answered reporters' questions concerning the Trump administration’s decision to withhold $65 million in funding to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) responsible for helping Palestinian refugees. Nauert said, “It’s money that’s being frozen at this time. It’s not being canceled. It’s just being held for future consideration.” She noted that the State Department has committed a voluntary contribution of $60 million for 2018 and not providing that money would run the risk of U.N. entities having to close. She said the State Department would like to see some reforms in how the U.N. Relief and Works Agency operates and how money is being spent.

At the top of the briefing, the deputy assistant secretary for Arabian Gulf Affairs gave update on the situation in Yemen. close
