A report released in December 2017 by the Health and Human Services Department’s Office of Inspector General identified what it called “deficiencies” in the Food and Drug Administration’s oversight of the food-recall process. Some of them concerned the agency’s monitoring of firms' recalls and its evaluation of health hazards. Representatives from both agencies testified before a House subcommittee to address these and other issues and the steps the FDA has taken since the report was issued. close
