The Senate Special Aging Committee held a hearing on health and retirement strategies for older Americans. Some of the topics included avoiding Medicare late enrollment penalties, resources to learn about Social Security benefits, programs to promote healthy aging, and the challenges facing seniors who live in rural communities. Among the witnesses were the acting deputy Social Security commissioner for communications, a geriatric physician, and a volunteer Medicare counselor who talked about the challenges applicants face when enrolling in the program. close
