Author H.W. Brands discussed 19th century political figures Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun and Daniel Webster. He explained why the three statesmen were critical to American politics between the War of 1812 and the Compromise of 1850. Mr. Brands is a history professor at the University of Texas at Austin. The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies at Grand Valley State University co-hosted this event. close
