Representative Schiff expressed frustration with Mr. Bannon’s perceived lack of cooperation with their investigation. He said Mr. Bannon refused to answer almost all of the questions and asserted that he had been instructed by the White House to invoke executive privilege. “The breadth of that claim of executive privilege is breathtaking and insupportable,” he said. Representative Schiff said that the questions he answered were a set of 25 questions that were scripted by the White House in a way that he could answer “no” to all of them. He said that the next steps would be to initiate contempt proceedings, adding that he believes the majority would be amenable to those discussions based on conversations he has had.
