U.S. Military Academy graduate Harry Rothmann talked about his military experiences after the Vietnam War. This included the Gander tragedy from 1985, when 248 American soldiers, most of them from the same division, died in a plane crash in Gander, Newfoundland after returning from a Cairo peacekeeping mission. Lieutenant Colonel Rothmann took command of that battalion and was responsible for rebuilding it. This is the second of two parts and is in the collection of the West Point Center for Oral History. close
