Author and American Studies professor Davarian Baldwin lectured on the “Great Migration” of African Americans from the southern United States to the north in the century following the Civil War, and the trials and triumphs of those who made the journey. Mr. Baldwin explained how the rejection of Jim Crow laws and practices in the south and the promise of economic opportunity in the north led to the relocation of millions of African Americans and a transformation of American society.
