General Joseph Votel, commander of U.S. Central Command, testified before the House Armed Services Committee about the operations of his combatant command, including ongoing missions in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. He also talked about working with U.S. military allies and partners in the Middle East to counter Iran’s efforts in the region, as well as the impact of Russian operations and influence, particularly in Syria. After the open portion of the hearing adjourned, Chair Mac Thornberry (R-TX) spoke for a few minutes with reporters before proceeding to a different room where the committee would continue with General Votel in a closed session. close
