Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) urged Congress to act on gun policy, and said she used to have an “A” rating from the NRA but now has an “F” after she voted for tighter gun laws following the December 2012 school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. She also the implication that wanting to end gun violence means a violation of Second Amendment rights “is a lie.” Senator Gillibrand asked members to see gun violence with “your heart” and declared that such issues will not stop unless Congress does its job. She also called for the banning of assault weapons and bump stocks, and the adoption of universal background checks. close
