Current and former State and Treasury Department representatives talked about the Trump administration’s use of economic sanctions as a foreign policy tool. They also reacted to news that President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un agreed to meeting face-to-face regarding that country’s nuclear program. The government officials called the development welcomed news but stressed it was too early to tell whether economic sanctions on North Korea were a success. They also said the administration’s maximum pressure campaign on the regime had shown an effect.
