The Supreme Court heard oral argument for Benisek v. Lamone, a case concerning political gerrymandering in Maryland. Republican voters were challenging the 2011 6th Congressional District map, saying it shifted political advantage to the Democratic Party. They argued the process for redrawing the district lines violated their First Amendment rights to free speech. The map was redrawn after the 2010 Census under a Democratic governor and Democratic members of the legislature. Republican Representative Roscoe Bartlett had held the seat since 1993. In 2012, Democrat Representative John Delaney unseated the long-time incumbent.
