U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer testified before the Senate Finance Committee on trade policy and the recent steel and aluminum tariffs announcement from the White House. Mr. Lighthizer said several countries would receive temporary exemptions from the tariffs including Mexico, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, South Korea, and the European Union. In addition, he discussed the president’s decision to impose new tariffs on Chinese imports, intellectual property theft, and the ongoing North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) chaired this hearing with Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) serving as the ranking member. close
